About the project
Due to moving location, the client needed a warehouse full of pallet racking taken down and dismantled to be transported to the new location.
The Challenge
UK Shelving was commissioned to dismantle and remove a large section of pallet racking within a healthcare facility in Basingstoke.
The project involved taking down 196 bays of pallet racking ranging from 6.15m to 7.65m high and 1100mm deep, with multiple beam lengths (3575mm and 2395mm).
Each bay featured four beam levels and sprinkler systems running through with Troax mesh panels at multiple levels — requiring careful planning and sequencing to ensure a controlled, safe dismantle process without disrupting the existing infrastructure
The Solution
- Safe Working at Height – All dismantling at height was conducted using scissor lifts with trained operatives following UK Shelving’s working at height procedures.
- Controlled Removal of Mesh and Sprinkler Systems – Troax mesh panels and sprinkler systems were removed systematically, ensuring no damage to pipework or surrounding structures. Water from the system was safely contained and cleared to maintain a dry workspace.
- Deconstruction & Stacking – Beams and frames were dismantled carefully using pump trucks and hand tools, then stacked securely within designated storage areas for removal.
- Site Clean-Up & Handover – Once the racking was removed, the area was fully cleared, all equipment off hired, and the project signed off with the client.
- Health & Safety – Safety was central to every stage of this project. Our operatives followed strict PPE requirements, clearly setup exclusion and working zones, and all tools (including those for hot works) were PAT tested and used by competent staff.

The racking was dismantled carefully and professionally around the sprinkler system, ensuring maximum safety whilst operating efficiently. Very impressed with the UK Shelving installation team and we will be using them for future projects
